Planning & Development

LOCAL DEVELOPMENT SCHEME

The Government has introduced a new planning system, which aims to speed up the process of plan preparation, whilst allowing more public involvement.

Under the new planning system, instead of producing a single document called a local plan, the Council is required to prepare a number of local develpment documents. These documents set out different aspects of the Council's policies for meeting the community's economic, environmental and social needs for the future of the District where this has an impact on the use of land. The Local Development Framework is a 'folder' of these documents.

This local development scheme explains what documents will be produced as part of the new Local Development Framework, when they will be produced and when you can get involved in the production of each document.

We have set ourselves a challenging timetable of having the main Local Development Framework documents for this District, formally completed and adopted by Summer 2007. we have set this target because we wish to maintain this Council's reputation for the delivery of development that we are required to provide, whilst maintaining and enhancing the natural beauty of the area.
